MEET THE COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS
Playing to win: Champion athletes aren’t just born - they’re selected, trained, molded and tested. Since 2013, we’ve been a competitive force in the Greater Washington DC area. We hone raw talent to maturity with quality coaching, intensive workouts and a true love of the sport. Teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship - those are the hallmarks of Lady Flash Softball: Laurel Boys and Girls Club.
Lady Flash Softball wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for Coach Smitty, who helps oversee our game strategy, coaches teams and advises on the best course of action. A lawyer by training and a lifelong community advocate, he has been coaching softball for five years and playing baseball his entire life. He has won four championships with his daughter. We really couldn’t have asked for a better or more qualified Head Coach.
Coach Kenny trains and mentors our players, by offering professional and quality guidance during the season and throughout the offseason. Coach Kenny was the Assistant Coach for our 2019 championship team. He has been at the Laurel Boys & Girls Club for 30 years, working with and advocating for our youth. A tireless volunteer, he also coaches the Wildcats - the talented football team at the Laurel Boys and Girls Club . He has two girls who play for the Flash.
A recently retired US Army veteran, Coach Mike has been playing softball since college. With his incredible knowledge of the sport and calm demeanor, Coach Mike has a unique approach to teaching his daughter's team the fundamentals of playing softball.
Coach Keith is a valued member our team. A former baseball player and longtime champion of youth athletics, he enjoys coaching his daughter and her teammates.
Coach Darren works closely with our team members to make sure they’re performing to the best of their abilities. An avid tennis player, Coach Darren brings his tennis racket and balls to train his daughter's softball team catching, agility and hand eye coordination.
“There is no royal flower-strewn path to success. And if there is, I have not found it, for whatever success I have attained has been the result of much hard work and many sleepless nights.”
